Jared Sluss
Calls the nation's top-rated Pre-K program “half-funded.” Wants Medicaid expansion on taxpayers' dime.
Fact check
“Half-funded” Pre-K
What they say
Campaign website blames “half-funded pre-k” on Republican rule. Slogan: “Fund Pre-K, Not Prisons.”12
The record
Under that Republican rule, Alabama's First Class Pre-K has met all 10 national quality benchmarks for 20 straight years, the longest streak of any state, with about $185 million a year in state funding. Enrollment is voluntary. That's not half-funded. That's the national model.3
Medicaid
What they say
“We can fix it by expanding medicaid & enforcing transparency.”1
The record
Taxpayers would pick up the tab. Medicaid is already the single biggest line in Alabama's General Fund: about $1.18 billion of a $3.7 billion budget. Expansion would add a new adult population on top of that, with the state paying roughly $225 million a year by PARCA's estimate, every year. Expansion supporters say savings elsewhere would cover it. That is a bet Alabama taxpayers would be placing with their money.45
Grocery tax
What they say
“It's time to eliminate the grocery tax.”1
The record
Republican leaders are already doing it, and paying for it responsibly. The Legislature cut the state grocery tax in half, from 4% to 2%, between 2023 and 2025, suspended it entirely for May and June 2026, and lawmakers have announced bills for 2027 to eliminate the rest. Promising to do what is already being done isn't a plan. It's a press release.678

Funded through ActBlue
Jared Sluss raises campaign money through ActBlue, the Democratic Party's fundraising platform. ActBlue is under investigation by three U.S. House committees, whose chairmen said in April 2026 that it “deliberately obstructed” their probe into whether illicit and foreign donations got through its system. In 2025 the President also ordered a Justice Department investigation. ActBlue denies wrongdoing.91011
