State House / State House · District 10
Marilyn Lands
Two years in office, and her headline campaign promises still haven't become law.
On the record
Big promises, little to show
Won a 2024 special election campaigning on IVF access. Two years later, her bill to protect IVF and contraception (HB 642) was filed with just days left in the 2026 session and did not become law. Her proposal to create citizen ballot initiatives is one she now “plans to reintroduce,” because it didn't pass either.123
Washington Democrats' pick
Backed by the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, the national Democratic Party's operation for flipping state legislatures. Her race is a Washington target.4
Fact check
Grocery tax
What they say
Supports eliminating the state grocery tax.3
The record
Republican leaders are already doing it, and paying for it responsibly. The Legislature cut the state grocery tax in half, from 4% to 2%, between 2023 and 2025, suspended it entirely for May and June 2026, and lawmakers have announced bills for 2027 to eliminate the rest. Promising to do what is already being done isn't a plan. It's a press release.567
Medicaid
What they say
Has said Medicaid expansion would create billions in economic growth.8
The record
Taxpayers would pick up the tab. Medicaid is already the single biggest line in Alabama's General Fund: about $1.18 billion of a $3.7 billion budget. Expansion would add a new adult population on top of that, with the state paying roughly $225 million a year by PARCA's estimate, every year. Expansion supporters say savings elsewhere would cover it. That is a bet Alabama taxpayers would be placing with their money.910

Funded through ActBlue
Marilyn Lands raises campaign money through ActBlue, the Democratic Party's fundraising platform. ActBlue is under investigation by three U.S. House committees, whose chairmen said in April 2026 that it “deliberately obstructed” their probe into whether illicit and foreign donations got through its system. In 2025 the President also ordered a Justice Department investigation. ActBlue denies wrongdoing.111213
